Ah. So it is not terribly common. or acceptable? I would hate for my friend to run into trouble because of his costuming choice.
[Believe it or not, Grant, he does absolutely mean a friend and not "a friend that is definitely not him". But it is a little concerning for... well. Reasons he is definitely not looking at too closely.]
I mean, for the holiday, of course. Such a thing would be utterly inappropriate otherwise. Obviously.
[Definitely. He's not even sure why he said that. Still, it wouldn't do for Grant to get the wrong idea.]
No, I'd say it's perfectly acceptable; here especially, I don't think your friend will get any trouble over it.
I completely disagree, actually. There's no reason men can't wear women's clothes whenever they want, outside of safety concerns depending on where they are - and this place is a lot safer than some.
Yeah...? Well, there's, uh. There's that at least. I'm sure it's even weirder for him than either of us.
[He considers asking who it is, but... honestly, he's not sure what benefit there could be to knowing that someone he either knows now or might know in the future is from a work of fiction from Shiro's world. That just sounds like a lot of unnecessary mental strain.]

[It's probably also best not to get into it too deep. He's told Mando there are stories about his kind, about things like Jedi. But not more than that. It didn't seem right.]
[Grant may well be surprised that Lorenz doesn't have an absurd reasons for that differentiation.]
What is socially acceptable for men and women to wear. If there were no reason a man might wear something traditionally feminine, a dress for example, then there's be no distinction between men's clothing and women's clothing to begin with. It's the fact that there IS a distinction that makes it clear that the expectation is that one wears what they "should".
In a way, perhaps. The reason is... Society decided what is acceptable and what is not.
I feel this may be one thing that Fodlan had the right of. Attire is largely determined by occupation. Practical concerns for mobility and safety come into play. Gender has nothing to do with it. As a mage it would be completely acceptable for me to wear what your modern folk would call a dress. (Though really mage robes are far less form fitting and detailed in an entirely different manner than most dresses.)
That's exactly it. Social norms develop and settle into a society until it feels to many of those within it as though they might as well be set in stone - but that doesn't mean that they are. A lot of rules, there's really no harm to breaking them; people just assume there must be because it's what they've been told.
What part do you feel Fodlan may have been right about? And... well, yeah, gender has nothing to do with what someone can or can't wear, that's completely true. But, aside from that, around here occupation doesn't even have to be part of it; I could wear a dress as easily as you could.
[He's not sure he'd look good in it, but that's just a personal Grant thing.]
[Ashe placed his phone on his bed and put his hands in pocket on his way out the door. He made sure Ky was distracted with the other pokemon and an extra treat then walked over to Grant's room. He gently knock on the door before he cleared his throat.]
Yeah! Yeah, uh-- [Grant scribbles down a couple final words in his notes for Chip's upcoming lesson plans, then gets up to go open the door and let Ashe in.] C'mon in.
[Since Ashe had said he wanted to talk privately, Grant closes the door behind him before asking:] So, what's up?
[Ashe gave a quick smile on his way inside.] Thanks. [Immediately after the question Ashe started to mess with the bottom of his hoodie. He was never good with such questions, but he had one on his mind since they had that sex ed talk a few days ago.]
Um, so, I guess I should just come out to say it. [Ashe took a small breath to gather his thoughts before he talked again.] I've had a crush on Dedue since our time at the academy, but I pushed it away each time because I didn't want to be a bother. There was so much going on back home too that made it nearly impossible to think that anything could happen between us. Now that we're in this new place where I don't have a lot of the responsibilities as I did back home a lot of my feelings are coming back. So I guess I have a crush on Dedue, but is it alright since he's in a relationship with Dimitri now?
[Ashe knew it was a lot to say at one time, but he couldn't get his jumbled thoughts together. He hoped he got them together enough to get his point across.]
[Grant went and sat down on his bed, pulling his desk chair over for Ashe as he got started talking, and...
...Man. That was a lot, but he certainly couldn't blame Ashe - for wanting to get it all out, or for the problem itself. That problem was, uh... well. It was familiar. But it sounded like Ashe had been dealing with it for quite a bit longer.
Grant nodded, slowly, rubbing at his jaw.] Huh... yeah, that's a tough one.
Well, to start with: You can't help your feelings, so it's definitely "alright" to like Dedue, no matter what. In addition, I can be pretty sure that Dimitri won't mind if you want to pursue something with Dedue - I'm sure he wants Dedue to get as much love as he can.
Really? I've felt bad about it for awhile because when Lysithea and Yuri were here I liked them a lot too, so I don't want it to look like I used them as a distraction or anything. [Ashe sighed as he took a seat then slid his fingers through his hair.]
I never had time to really think about my feelings, until I got here. I know that I like a lot of people that I didn't want to overstep my bounds since Dedue is in a relationship with Dimitri. You don't think he would mind?
I don't think anyone here would think that; there's nothing wrong with having feelings for more than one person. [He laughs quietly, and gestures just sort of... around.] I mean, obviously, a lot of us here would be hypocrites if we did think that.
Not at all. If you're really not sure, you could always check with Dimitri before saying anything to Dedue?
[Ashe gave a small smile as he messed with his fingers. He didn't think about that he was a little nervous about admitting having feelings for more than one person. Even though he's seen that everyone has been so accepting of this new lifestyle he was still nervous about pursuing someone who was a part of that.
Then again maybe it would be okay.
Well at least he wasn't as nervous around Dimitri like he used to be.]
Do you think I should let him know? Well, I probably should since it will be easier to let him know this way instead of having Dimitri find out. I just didn't want to overstep any bounds or anything.
If you want to tell him, I think you should. [Speaking of being a hypocrite.] I don't think you'll be overstepping - and the only way to be sure of any part of this is to ask.
It is easier to talk to him here than back home. [Despite Dimitri's numerous attempts they were able to talk, but it was much harder between their schedules even if he tried once he got over his nerves about being so casual with the crown king.]
Yeah you're right I'm still really nervous about it, but I think I should it. It would stop Ky from trying to give Dedue my journal. I started writing my thoughts down and Ky knows which journal has my feelings for Dedue it it. He's been trying to leave it around places where Dedue goes around a lot.
