[It's a bit late at night, and they've generally set up camp by now. Dimitri got in his obligated 20 minutes of naptime, and he's now determined to Keep Watch. Considering that they sometimes run into rowdy nocturnal pokemon, this isn't necessarily a bad idea.]
[However, as Grant might be getting ready to tuck in himself, Dimitri wanders closer to the general campsite. It's likely Grant saw him fiddling with the pokegear for Gremlin's amusement, and that's still in his hand as he wanders over. He keeps his voice low.]
[So, good news: Being a single parent to an elementary-school age child, even for only a relatively short time, Grant is no stranger to being interrupted when he's about to sleep with bizarre questions or comments.
That... doesn't mean he has any idea what Dimitri is talking about, of course. He looks up from scooting into his sleeping bag, glancing over to make sure Chip is still asleep before answering quietly.]
Yo! Hope this is okay. You and me haven't talked officially, but my name's Kirishima and I saw you were the one who broadcast when Chip won his... her... first badge? [ The tone sounds a bit hesitant and questioning there. ]
Anyway, I'm guessin' that means you're an older person who's traveling and lookin' after them. I'm doing my holiday shopping and I was thinkin' I'd like to send you all something?
I'm in Goldenrod now, which is the biggest city I've ever come across here and it has a Pidgey mail system. If there's something you think I could get Chip or both of you to make your journey more fun, or if there's something I can pick up that would help you, I'd like to!
[Oh no this is so sweet. Grant takes a little bit to appreciate that before responding.]
Hey, thanks for calling! Yeah, I'm Chip's dad - oh, and "they" is right, actually.
Anyway, that'd be great, if you want to go for it. Ah, let's see... [Thinking over what Chip's mentioned wanting lately, that wasn't covered in their gifts already... well, they've been talking about wanting a bike, but that seems like an awfully big expense for a teenager. So--]
Oh, you know what-- they've been talking about wanting toys for their Pokemon, so they've got more ways to play with them.
hey grant can i talk to you about something? kind of important but also nothing uh... well you didn't do anything wrong! i just wanted to pick your brain abt something.
[Grant probably heard Dimitri shuffling off to bother Felix in his room - Dimitri does his Very Best, but he is not often capable of complete stealth and silence. He's used to wearing plate. What can you do.]
[Grant might also have been aware, depending on how he paid attention to the groceries Sylvain brought in earlier in the day and how he kicked Felix out of their room for a bit, that Sylvain was definitely preparing a little Dimidate. The bags of cheese give it away.]
[And yet, those awkwardly quiet footsteps end up outside of his door, and Dimitri tries to keep his knocking as quiet as possible while still being. knocks.]
[Grant is faintly aware of the distant sounds of Awkward Boyfriend Shuffling, but he just leaves that in his periphery as he gets his Pokemon settled down for bed. He's glad that Sooty doesn't bark much, or he'd be worried about him waking Chip up as Grant tosses a plush ball for him to fetch, over and over. Puppies, man.
When he hears that gentle knocking at his own door, though, he gives the ball one last toss and stands up; within a couple seconds, he cracks the door open, the motion as careful and quiet as Dimitri's own knocking.] Hey - what's up?
I wanted to let you know that Sylvain seems to be going through what Jane went through while we were staying with her. He's not waking up. Dirk said people tend to be out for about a week when this happens, and when they wake up they remember going home and more time having progressed for them there. So that's likely what's happening.
Felix is with him right now. I'm not sure he wants any company, but it's important you guys know what's going on.
[Chip's willingness to snitch on Grant for his own good has meant that Dimitri was, in fact, prepared for Grant's birthday, no matter how soon after Christmas it was.]
[Not that his present is anything really extravagant. They're practical things, more than anything else. One of them is a thermos with a wooden outer shell detailing an apple tree. The other is a rather classy scarf, roughly in an Ultra Ball pattern and quite comfy.]
[Dimitri tries not to make a big production of it, because he suspects Grant might not have wanted to make it as such... but he does hold his hand for a little while.]
[ Settling in at the hotel admittedly took longer than she had hoped- combine that with various busy schedules, and trying to chance upon the few people you've yet to meet and it may seem impossbile. But here she is, with a pleasant but neutral smile when they finally do come across each other. ]
You're Grant, right? Claude and Felix mentioned you and your child. My name is Lysithea von Ordelia.
[Grant gives a smile and a nod when she approaches; he'd known someone else from the others' world was going to join them soon, so after that anticipation it's just nice to finally see her in person.
...Also, her name sounds kinda familiar? He'll place that later.]
That's me; hope you got an alright impression. [He's bracing himself a little bit to be analyzed, either way, but that's just par for the course when he meets new people who already know someone close to him.] I heard you'd be on your way, but it's good to meet you properly!
[Is it cowardly to have this conversation over Instant Messaging? Maybe. But Sylvain feels... apprehensive about having this conversation in person. He's been wearing the guilty dog look enough lately -- he doesn't want Grant to be swayed from any emotion he might be feeling by that expression.
Goddess knew Grant Abaroa tried to cover up his own feelings enough. Funny, how Sylvain could relate to that.]
[ It's around the time the sun starts to set that she goes to knock on Grant's door. With everything that had been happening, she had decided it... better, to put it off. But. Well. This sort of thing sucked? Big time. So when he opens it he may see her holding a familiar card... but on the bright side she doesn't look upset? ]
[Fortunately, what with how far down Grant's line of sight needs to go to look at Jinx, he sees her face before the card. The latter still worries him, that's for sure; some uncertainty crosses his face when he sees that design, wonders just what about him (or that Jinx had reason to assume might be relevant to him) the Indeedee handed to her.
But there's none of that potential moment of outright fear. Just some hesitation as he nods.]
...Yeah. Uh... d'you want to come in or stay out here?
[Envy usually at least has SOME idea of where his Pokemon are when he's outside of Goldenrod. Unless, of course, he's distracted by finding the thing Heather needed and it's these three particular Pokemon.]
[The terrible puppies are loose.]
[Which means that Grant will have one small Poochyena bouncing up to him, wiggling and yipping and looking oh so very cute and as attention grabbing as possible.]
Felix is getting tired of wandering around alone - well, alone except for Mew, but the cat keeps turning invisible or going off by itself, and Felix is getting tired of that, too. It tried to hand him a weird little box thing and said he could use it to communicate or look at maps, but he had no idea what it was and didn't feel like messing with it, so he just shoved it into his pocket.
He's also hungry, and Mew brought him some berries but they tasted horrible. And he doesn't have his bow for hunting, and when he tried to use his sword to hunt a deer, Mew made him stop for reasons he still doesn't understand. So he can't hunt and he can't forage, and he has no money, and just about the only saving grace is that it's unusually warm outside, so at least he's not freezing like he would be if he were at home.
But just thinking about home gets him sniffling. So finally, he gives up. He finds a bench to sit down on, pulls his feet up onto it, folds his arms over his knees, buries his face in them, and cries.
Which is where Grant and Chip will find a child with hair the exact color of Felix's with a similar style, wearing the same color that the others have called 'Fraldarius blue,' with a floating pink cat hovering nearby that seems to be beckoning them over.
Grant doesn't recognize the kid, at first - just, a child crying on a bench, and that's reason enough to approach, tapping briefly at Chip's shoulder to make sure they know he's changing course. It's only when he gets closer that he gets an inkling that said kid looks familiar.
"Hey-- you okay?" Suspicion is already nagging at him as he goes to squat down near the bench. Near it, a couple feet off, not right by it; if that suspicion is right, and Felix is anything now like he is as an adult, getting too close too fast might be, uh... dangerous.
[Dimitri has been working on - a few things, this month, actually. A lot of them have been secret... All of them, actually? But this thing is probably one of the most mundane.]
[So in the morning, Dimitri goes to find Grant after he's done with his usual training run with Felix. He has one hand behind his back, and he's smiling as he looks to Grant.]
Good morning, Grant. Could you do me a favor, and close your eye...?
[Now that he's starting to think more actively about Pokemon breeding, Grant's had an awful lot more busywork to get done, on top of keeping up with Chip's lessons - so it's probably no surprise that he's poring over his notes again when Dimitri finds him, making little adjustments to his plans.
He sets them down readily, though, giving Dimitri a quizzical look before going ahead and closing his eye.] ...Alright. Should I be worried?
[That's a joke. He can't imagine what he would have to worry about from Dimitri.]
Oh, hey! No, it's not awkward - though, it was that obvious, huh?
...Of course, I say that, but now I'm following it with: Yeah, it seemed like you and Thace weren't big fans either. Which was kind of validating, actually. I wasn't sure at first how much of my reaction was just personal baggage on my end.
Well, it's just *great* to know that I don't have to actually *make* any threats for people to decide that I'm threatening Lance. It would be one thing if they were pissed off at me for the nasty things I said to him. I'd *get it* if they were angry about the things I implied. But I keep getting told I *threatened* him and I didn't.
I mean, I *did* put my scary asshole gameface on to say that to him. I won't deny that. But I didn't *actually* threaten him. I attempted to humiliate him and then I scolded him. *Thace* snarled at him and then scolded him. *Neither* of us actually made threats.
Jesus fucking *Christ*, Grant. I thought I was finally *done* with smiling and eating shit, but I guess the fuck not.
[Someone is a little bitter at being yelled at for the things he didn't do and not the things he did.]
Grant tries his best to think back over the auction and its immediate aftermath, and... has to admit his memory of it is kind of fuzzy. Which is no surprise, he guesses.]
Shit
Okay, to be clear I am not doubting a single thing you're saying but I've got to ask - what DID get said? I feel like I remember someone saying something about threats but I'll admit I wasn't super processing a lot of what was said so I couldn't deny it at the time, sorry
[So part of the difficulty here is that Grant is discovering - or, perhaps, given his prior knowledge of how he responds to this kind of thing, confirming - that he... doesn't remember very much of of what happened at the auction. He remembers what Lance said, remembers Steven and Thace reacting, remembers talking briefly to Thace immediately afterward and then to Shiro over text a while later.
He does not remember very much of the... details of anything between Lance's outburst and his conversation with Shiro. So now he's got to ask:]
For sure, if... sorry, this is kind of weird, but if you can tell me what you're apologizing for? I'll admit, my memory of a lot of it is kind of fuzzy, but I don't remember any reason you'd have to apologize to me.
Oh- hey, Grant, I saw you're starting selling eggs, right?
( don't mind her poppin up between various explorations, teams coming and going. despite the casual ninja stealth, she's offering a water bottle too- it's a hot day, after all. )
So just as a head's up I think the snorunt maybe cursed some of us with perpetual honesty and I was worried about you just in case you had things you didn't want to share with the world so uh just FYI I am going to stop typing before this gets worse!
