Really? That is.... curious. I now wonder if a similar concept exists somewhere in my own home, simply in another country that Fodlan never learned about...
[There were so many that Fodlan never bothered to learn about, was interested in fighting more than anything else...]
[He wobbles a hand side-to-side.] Some of them. See, sometimes magic will sort of affix itself to an animal, and luck-based natural enchantments seem to be especially common among cats - kind of like extra eyes!
[Yeah, you know, how cats frequently have extra eyes. That well-known cat fact.]
[Dimitri just blinks for a moment, his brain trying to process this fun new bit of information that Grant has bestowed upon him.]
It is common?
[Should. Should he be concerned about their own cats here? Wait, no, actually, extra eyes would probably be the least strangest thing about Pokemon here.]
I suppose so. At the very least, we do not have things such as curses. [Certainly not to the level of werewolves, at any rate.] There are formulas to keep in mind, and the like.
I am not particularly knowledgeable about such things, if I am to confess my failings... [He is but a simple jock.]
Yeah, so I've heard - as far as the formulas, that is. That can come into it in some magic back home to, but it sounds like the core workings are different... it's kind of incredible. And I think that difference may have to do with why cats aren't affected the same way.
[As much of a nerd as he is about this stuff, though:] Hey, that's not a failing - it's just not your area of specialty.
Brilliant people get into all kinds of things. Philosophy, astrophysics-- uh, that's a kind of science in my world.
Anyway, point is... I get the feeling you're talking about, but just... bear in mind it's not true, y'know? Wouldn't be reasonable for everyone to get into the same high-profile crap.
I suppose so... Still, it leaves me wondering sometimes what I am truly good for. Back in my homeland, Grant, I devoted myself almost completely to becoming a good warrior... especially in the last five years.
[For.... reasons.]
I was also trained in being a king, of course, and I like to think I delved deeply enough into those studies, but at times I wonder... Ah. [Dimitri shakes his head.] I apologize. All I came to call you about was the nature of cats and luck. This is off-topic.
Well, to be fair: I don't know if magic is much more useful here than direct combat. [Maybe less so, honestly.] And you've picked up plenty of skills here, like your woodworking - and even if it weren't for all that, you're still absolutely vital to us all, just by being yourself.
Oh, no - if there's more you want to talk about, feel free!
[Hearing Grant try to bolster up his worth, his confidence, so determinedly... It makes Dimitri smile, just a little bit. It is good to know that Grant is still as much of a caring man as he ever was.]
Thank you, Grant. I do appreciate it, of course. But all I had to say were... simply bouts of self doubt, and pondering things that do not truly matter anymore.
You must certainly be busy as well, aren't you? i know you have a great deal you need to accomplish, especially with Chip's lessons.
Okay... if you're sure. I just-- want to make sure you know. [Do you know, Dimitri, how much he loves you, because it's really important that you know that!!]
I mean-- well, I do have stuff to do, but I can take some time to talk.

Cats are intrinsically lucky?

[Definitely exactly the same!!]

No, I never have... Although, ah, I am familiar with other extra little things? So perhaps it has simply never happened around me before...
[M.... Maybe???????]

[Hmmm.]
You guys' magic... works differently from in my and Chip's world, right?

[Except then Grant is calling him out, and Dimitri rubs the back of his neck.]
I suppose so... Still, it is enough to leave one feeling rather - lacking. Such brilliant people get into magic, after all.
