[Good lord. How does he even... where does he even... Thank Grant for trying? Start apologizing for the entire thing? Promise that Blue is grounded for months?]
[If he keeps thinking about this, he's not going to have the words at all.]
Grant, I It's Shiro. Really Shiro.
Just. Checking in. Apologizing. For that whole mess.
[There's barely a pause before Grant starts typing, and the response is in shortly after that. He's got no doubt this is actually Shiro, for real; Blue is nowhere near good enough at faking for this.]
Hey! I'm glad to hear from you - and you've got nothing to apologize for, that wasn't your fault. How are you doing?
Hello Grant! I hear you like books, and I don't know what kind of books you like! If I'm going to help assemble a library I need to fix that lack of knowledge straight away. So let's talk books as soon as possible!
At your earliest convenience, of course.
[Grant may or may not have any prior context for this sudden message, because Annette surely did not successfully provide any]
Oh wow, I didn't even think about the fact that your world probably has even different genres than the ones I'm learning about in this one, huh! Yeah, we probably want to have this chat in person, it might be a while. Or a lot of little whiles, whatever works better.
Oh yeah, sorry! I didn't really explain that, oops. I mentioned to Dimitri that I know I and a few others would love to have a little library in the new house, and he mentioned you would too, and I just got super excited about the possibilities and I guess I forgot you can't read minds, sorry!
So when do you want to talk texts? There's no rush, of course, I'm just getting carried away is all. 😄📚📖
[From what Dedue can discern, of all those in their household, he and Grant are the ones who are unaffected by the bodyswapping. In light of that, the general horseshittery that has occurred, and the fact that Grant is good company, Dedue has sought him out.]
Grant. May I ask something of you?
[A totally non-ominous way to start a conversation.]
[Grant is, simply put, So Goddamn Tired - and he can't even claim not to have brought it on himself, at least a little, seeing as how he keeps trying to reason with the Pokemon inhabiting their trainers' bodies today.
Predictably, that has had... mixed results.
Point is, it's kind of a relief to talk to one of the handful of people who have not been switched, and someone he likesin some ways that are more relevant than others at that. Enough so to outweigh that potentially concerning opening to the interaction.] Yeah, of course - what's up? I mean, other than... the obvious.
[So this might be really concerning if Grant hadn't been watching that post. Just to be sure, though:] Is this about the hot or not post or something else?
Sometime after the festival, the house will be visited by a deliver Pidgey bearing an envelope. Inside is a single note and three friendship bracelets: one with amber thread, one with royal, and one with deep indigo, all woven with the same pale pink as Allura's markings.
Dear Grant, Felix, and Dimitri,
I woke up with this under my pillow last night. Keith tells me this is called a "friendship bracelet," and I have a feeling these three belong to you. Thank you all so much for your kindness, generosity, and candor, and I look forward to seeing our friendship grow... and for the chance to win gold against such skilled opponents in future contests.
[Hike to the coast, and then hike around and look for... beans. It's not much, but it's work. It's something to do while hoping you can get back to your actual time period in this world. And hey, maybe the ocean air will help clear the headache he's had the entire time he's been here.]
[He has managed to rig up a bucket-backpack for his Mantyke though. Not the most comfortable thing, but oh well. It's a workout, and Pancake seems to really like it. In fact, she's peering out of it now, squeaking at Shiro's assigned partner for this mission.]
[And thankfully, it's Grant. Which has Shiro almost immediately at ease.]
[Grant nods, giving a tired smile; it's all been just... a lot to deal with, and he can't even pretend that adjusting to being in a whole new time period, and trying to mitigate Chip's stress over it, and trying not to worry too much about any potential, uh. Existential issues here. Has been a lot.
But, for now, he stoops down to pat the Spheal that's been by his side for this whole... experience, and then stands to follow Shiro.]
[It isn't terribly difficult for Dedue to locate Grant at the house, nor, perhaps, is it unusual for him to do so. Dedue is not a man who makes friends particularly easily, considering his intimidating stature and taciturn nature, but he finds Grant's company to be... pleasant. Easy, even, if no Wooper are involved.]
[Today, he approaches Grant with a purpose, and also like six egg-sized baby slings.]
Hello, Grant. I hope that I am not interrupting you, but am I correct in my understanding that you currently possess an overabundance of Swinub eggs?
[Truffle and Kent are... prolific, if nothing else.]
[Grant is sitting on the floor of his room, the door wide open to signal everyone else the house to feel free to come in, as he sorts through some clutter that had accumulated before they were all dragged off to Hisui. Somehow, arriving back to the space after being gone had it bothering him more than it had before.
As necessary as it may be, though, it's also boring. He could not be happier for an excuse to stop folding all his shirts for a bit.] I do! Did you want... [How many slings is that] ...Some?
It is unfair that the burden of educating the whole of us has fallen onto your shoulders. There is much we do not understand due to the differences in Fodlish culture and Johto. I do hope you know how very much I and the others appreciate your wisdom in these matters.
I wish to ask you a few questions regarding this Halloween holiday, if you don't mind. I'm afraid in this I cannot trust Stephanie not to intentionally misguide me for her own amusement.
[With all the damage those giant worm friends caused by tunneling everywhere, well, it's no wonder that some of their traveling plans have been put on hold for a second, so they're just... staying in the hotel while that all Happens.]
[And apparently when you leave Dimitri alone for an extended period of time, he just eventually comes knocking on your hotel door to peek in.]
Grant? Are you familir with weed? And I do not mean the type which Dedue normally forbids me from eating outside of our designated garden.
...Although I imagine Dedue would not allow me to partake of this either.
